Growing up reading-obsessed, Mari escaped into books to manage reality, keep her impulsive tendencies in check, and annoy her little sister who found pleasure in hurling Mari’s paperbacks into the closest body of water. This heinous and cruel attention-seeking caused Mari many hours of hair-drying wet pages, as she vowed to enact revenge by reading even more! As an adult, Mari has remained a voracious bibliophile. She even graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in English and Simmons University with M.A.'s in Teaching and Children’s Literature. She taught middle school English for twenty years before following her dream to become a writer, and her recent poetry has been featured in the Journal of Expressive Writing and the One Page Poetry Anthology. When she's not agonizing over pitching her first book, As Good As Bread, Mari coaches girls' varsity field hockey and lacrosse at Lincoln School in Providence, RI where she lives with three teenagers (a.k.a., her little shiitake mushrooms), a New York Times crossword puzzle-obsessed husband, and a canine rescue who believes that pooping in the basement is a much better option than waiting for a human to take her outside in the frigid winter months.
